Conservation work on the Sigiriya Mirror Wall has already commenced following the recent revelation that there is a risk of a fungus spreading on a part of the Sigiriya Mirror Wall.
Under the supervision of Prof. PB Mandawala, Director General of Archelogy and Prof. Prishantha Gunawardena, Director General of the Central Cultural Fund, the conversation work of the relevant section of the Sigiriya Mirror Wall commenced yesterday(5th).
After informing the Minister in charge of the subject Akila Viraj Kariyawasam that there is a risk of a fungus spreading on a part of the mirror wall, the Minister instructed the officials to take all necessary steps to rectify this situation immediately and to seek the assistance of foreign experts as and when required.
Commenting on the spread of the fungus, Director General of the Central Cultural Fund Prof. Prishantha Gunawardena said that this is a natural phenomenon that usually occurs with climate change and can be reversed through chemical treatments.
